Single A (Ages 5–7*) - Intro Division: Building Confidence and Having Fun

  • For our youngest players — typically Kindergarten, 1st grade, and new or tentative 2nd graders — Single A is all about fun, learning, and building confidence.
  • Format: Non-competitive, coach pitch;
  • Game play: Everyone hits the ball! After five pitches, players use a tee. No scores are kept, and coaches make the calls and guide players in the field.
  •  Ball: 11-inch soft compression ball;
  •  Focus: Teamwork, basic skills, and love for the game in a relaxed, encouraging setting.

*Eight year olds who are in their first year are eligible for this division. Final placement is determined by the WCLL softball player agent and board.

AA (Ages 7–9*) - Development Division: Growing Into the Game

  • A developmental step-up for experienced 2nd graders, 3rd graders, and 4th graders new to the game. We continue to foster confidence, build on skills, with a little more structure.
  • Format: Season starts with coach pitch and transitions into player pitch.
  •  Gameplay: No walks, but players can strike out.
  •  Ball: 11-inch softball;
  • Tryouts: Required for team placement. Teams are organized by WCLL softball board, no draft. This allows us to organize by school and friends keeping the emphasis on learning and fun.
  •  Focus: A large developmental aspect of this division is learning to pitch, catch, and throw the ball using the right techniques.
  • Tournaments: The league may host an end of the season championship tournament. Top players may also be selected for the All-Star team.

*Ten-year-olds who are new to the game are eligible for this division. Final placement determined by WCLL softball board.
