2021 Spring Season Update

Return-to-competition guidelines adjusted

Dear Walnut Creek Little League Families,

I hope this communication is finding everyone well and excited for the Spring baseball and softball season. We got some great news on Friday from the California Department of Public Health regarding their latest guidelines for youth sports. The good news is that baseball and softball can now be played when the adjusted case count drops to 14 cases or lower per 100,000. Contra Costa County just hit 13.8 today (2/20). Play Ball!!! With this news, I wanted to provide an update on what to expect in the upcoming weeks.

As it stands today all players who registered for softball have been rostered and should have heard from their coaches already. If you have not, please contact Ken Cofflin at kencofflin@gmail.com. On the baseball side, all players who registered for divisions AA, AAA, Majors, and Teen are rosterd and should have heard from their coaches by now. Please contact Scott Kobsar at wcllplayeragents@gmail.com if you have not heard from a coach. We are currently working on forming teams for both Peanuts and A divisions. We are hoping to have the rosters complete next week and out to coaches to communicate by the weekend of 2/27. We are still short on coaches, so if you have been hanging back, we would greatly appreciate it if you could step up and take a team. Please contact Matt Keeperman at mattkeep22@gmail.com if you are willing to volunteer.

In regards to practice and game timelines, our teenage teams are already up and running and taking advantage of the few fields we have at this point. Starting the week of March 8, we are hoping to start practice for the rest of the league. We are tentatively targeting the last week of March to start games. We still do not have permission from Walnut Creek or Mount Diablo School Districts to use their fields, so field space will be tight and we are going to need everyone’s patience as we work through this.

It is very exciting that return-to-competition guidelines have been adjusted, but that does not mean we are going to let our guard down when it comes to COVID-19 safety. You will receive our COVID-19 guidelines from your head coach, but I encourage everyone to visit the “Safety Corner” on our website to start learning about our COVID-19 Safety Guidelines.

Overall, I am very excited about how things are progressing and we are in a great position to start playing baseball games in the very near future.
